Burgdorf Castle was built by the Zähringen family in the ^12th century. It is one of Switzerland's oldest fortresses, and is extremely well preserved. Restored several times, this imposing building now houses a museum with several collections relating to the art and history of the region, as well as a youth hostel and restaurant.
