The village of Ilisu is the last accessible before the Russian border (the military is very surprised to see foreigners in this village, and can become inquisitors). Located at 1 500 m above sea level, it is overlooked by a fortress of the early th century. The latter served the local Sovereign, Shamil, to defend himself against Russian invasions. Today only the ruins of the watchtower, but the rise of the hill deserves to be undertaken for the magnificent panorama that it reserves on snow-capped gorges and mountains. The village also has a very beautiful mosque of the th century, facing a former watchtower tower dated th or th century. The tower was then renewed by the Russians by the Azéris. Finally, a third fortress completes the village's defensive system. The tower of Suma Gala, dating back to the th century, was restored. It can be seen from the outside, but visit the interior (moreover without great interest) falls within the combat of the combatant: We have to ask the key to the office of the culture of Gakh… Ilisu is surrounded by mineral springs whose medicinal properties are vaunted in the neighborhood.
