The city of Denau is known for its rebellious spirit: isolated and far from everything, it has never stopped being more or less autonomous and independent. And this, in spite of the multiple allegiances passed during the centuries. It is in particular in the surrounding mountains that the last basmatchi withdrew to fight against the Russians and then the Bolsheviks. Today, the main activity is concentrated around the bazaar and on the portion of the road leading to the border post with Tajikistan. As a border town, everything is traded here and the whole place is very lively. Some sites of interest do not compensate for the lack of tourist attraction of the city.
