FAYZULLOH KHODJAEV MUSEUM
Go there and contact

Outside Old Bukhara. The house of the former president of the Turkestan People's Republic dates from the late 19th century. It was built by Fayzulloh's father, a wealthy Bukhari merchant. An admirable effort has been made to reproduce the interior of this residence as it was until 1925, when it was converted into a school by the Bolsheviks. Numerous murals and period furniture can be admired throughout the succession of rooms surrounding the house's three inner courtyards.
The rooms in the ichkari, the part of the house reserved for the family, feature beautiful original exposed beams and walls with small niches, typical of the old Bukhara houses. Before finding a decorative vocation, these niches served as storage spaces and libraries. The iwan, extraordinarily decorated in warm colors and geometric patterns, is made of elm wood. It took several years to restore it to its former glory.
To fully appreciate this exceptional house, it's advisable to make an appointment for a guided tour (usually in English). You won't regret paying the extra fee to take photos either. In the courtyard, note the bust of Fayzulloh Khodjaev. It was once enthroned on the Liab-i-Khaouz square and had to be cut into three pieces to be returned to its model's house.
