Travel Guide Dinguiraye

After various study trips and a pilgrimage to Mecca that lasted more than ten years, El-Hadj Omar Tall, a Toucouleur born in Senegal and a passionate Muslim, settled in Dinguiraye around 1848. He preached the spirituality of the Tidjaniya. It was from there that he prepared and launched the holy war against the Bambara animists of Mali and that he laid the foundations of a vast empire: the Toucouleur Empire. From this period, Dinguiraye has kept a certain prestige and a mosque created by the great man around 1850.
