SMALL ARTISANAL GOLD MINES

Near the town, especially on the way to Kankan, there are many small gold mines that are exploited by the inhabitants with very limited means. This is why the city is largely empty during the day, as the population migrates to the mine shafts. One can then see the miners slipping into the hand dug shafts and the women barefoot in the mud washing the earth removed from these shafts, in search of the nugget that will make their fortune.
