SLATE QUARRY

A few kilometers from Labé and Tyalakoun towards Tougue is a slate deposit, unique in the sub-region. It was opened and exploited before independence by a French entrepreneur named L. E. Krieger. The slate extracted from this quarry was used to cover various buildings, both in Labé and in other towns in the country. But its exploitation was abandoned at the end of the 1980s. There are still some administrative buildings in Kouroula covered with these slates as well as the headquarters of the prefecture and the post office.
