PALACIO DE LA CULTURA
Built in 1935, four years after the earthquake that ravaged the city the first time. He resisted the second earthquake in 1972. The palace once housed the National Congress: some still remember the images aired by television in 1978 when the Sandinista guerrillas stormed the building. Today we celebrate the arts with a museum offering collections of painting, music and poetry. Its neoclassical architecture houses the National Library and the National Museum (collection of pre-Columbian idols, natural history, temporary exhibitions, murals illustrating the dramatic history of the capital, including the earthquake, etc.). Since its creation, the museum has retained the most important collection of cultural property in the country, with a vast majority of pre-Columbian cultures, a cultural richness reflected in its artistic, stone and ceramic creations, at least 5 000 years. To the south is the Cultural Centre where you can watch artists at work, or attend a concert.
