The hotel was built in 1895, in the traditional Tyrolean style, with tar-coated logs and a roof ridge topped by a stylized dragon's mouth. Originally a sanatorium, the Tuddal was transformed into a high-mountain hotel in 1934 (Høyfjellshotell). Originally, the hotel had an open veranda.
