VIKING SHIP MUSEUM (VIKINGSKIPSHUSET)
There are only 3 longships in this sober museum, but what marvels they are! Over a thousand years old, they were found in the Tune, Gokstad and Oseberg excavations. They carried Vikings banished to Iceland and Greenland, crossed the North Sea to America in an abortive attempt at colonization, and penetrated the Mediterranean as far as Istanbul to trade or carry out bloody raids. The Oseberg ship, the largest and best preserved, was the tomb of a Viking queen. The objects unearthed are quite unique, such as these terrifying stylized dragon heads, this astonishing seal adorned with a Buddha attesting to trade with Asian peoples, and this richly carved chariot with a representation of Gunnar in the snake pit, which is none other than Wagner's "Günther from the Ring" (inspired by ancient Norse legends).

Petit regret : peu d'informations sur la manière de vivre des vikings.
