A ten-minute drive from the center stretches the pretty beach of Moara, with its white sand at the edge of the coconut trees. The bay of Port Bouquet is also worth a visit, a few kilometers away. It overlooks the sea magnificently and faces the islets Némou and Toupéti, which offer superb underwater scenery for diving. In the direction of the hourly road leading to Canala, the beach of Ouroué and its black sand also reveals a surreal landscape. The region of Thio is a beautiful area, mountains and sea offer thrills.

I had to camp 4 days at camping of Moara, a little more than a year ago. The site is absolutely splendid and perfectly wild and it is a good starting point to visit on the one hand Thio, however the " coast oubliée". Here and there, there are water points tables and benches in concrete. On the other hand, the tribe kanak which holds the campsite come to box money, not ...... Do not expect a welcome whatever it is, or with a cleaning of the site. The facilities are deplorable, and it is better to collect to yourself even papers (that is used to light the barbecue with the relics collected on the beach), that is, if it is dirty, it is also the fact of the campers. A pity because this place has an extraordinary potential.
A few metres from the beach a few coral beds are rich in fauna and flora and you must take mask and snorkel. But absolute of the site, it is its dugong that regularly come to swim and play with the swimmers. I swam twice with him, beautiful and impressive, an unforgettable experience.
