This temple, also known as Xayaphoum, is located on the banks of the Mekong in the city center. Built in 1542, it is one of the oldest in the country. It is considered one of the finest temples built during the Phomvihane reign. Today, it houses a large monastic community and its own Buddhist school. Its architecture dates from the early Savannakhet period. At the entrance is a workshop where Buddha statues are built. Ceremonies are held here on the occasion of the Lao New Year (Pi May) and the dugout festival.
