Read moreThe boat is a convenient and pleasant way to get to Houay Xai, in northwest Laos, from where one crosses the Mekong to Thailand, or to Pakbeng, among others. A slow boat can accommodate between 40 and 70 passengers, depending on its size. The pier has moved several kilometres from the city centre (ask at the Tourist Office for prices and access). Some trips are cancelled during low water periods due to the risk of grounding. And the starting point can vary according to the level of the river.

The airlines serving this airport are : Lao Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Air Asia. From this airport, domestic flights (Vientiane, Pakse, Phonsavan), flights to Bangkok and Hanoi, and other international flights.
