A city caravanière in the south Arabian period, it was first inhabited by the tribe of Kindah. Seyoun became the capital of Khatiri in the th century. Its architecture is typical of the Hadramawt, except the Sultans palace, a mixture of architectures dominated by Indian style. The city is located 320 km from Moukalla and 19 km from Shibam. It is said that the name of this city comes from a famous female village, named "Seyoun", which had a hostel. It was said in the common language: " Tonight I'm going to dinner at Seyoun. " Hence the name of this city.
