This museum of crime and medieval justice covers four floors and traces more than 1,000 years of the history of jurisprudence in Europe. You will learn about the penalties for crimes and misdemeanours and the way justice was administered in those days. We will see many instruments of torture intended to extract confessions from the supposedly guilty and it is chilling to see these cages, pillories, trestles for quartering or the "iron maiden" which we doubt, however, that it was really used.

The Museum of Medieval Crime is located in Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber. It houses exhibitions on German and European legal history. These works reflect the severe punishments and public humiliations used to administer "law and order". They also convey the history of criminal law and punishment. A variety of drinks and schneeballen (delicious homemade cookies) are also available on site. A special exhibition entitled "Luther and the Witches" can be viewed via a virtual multimedia tour. The Crime Museum takes you on a journey back in time through the fine arts.
