A medieval clock tower, symbol of the city.

The Gothic town tower is one of the first buildings to be seen on arrival in Straubing. It is 68 metres high and dates back to 1316. It is still the heart of the town centre today. It was a watchtower to keep an eye on enemies and prevent fires, a clock tower and a bell tower as the first town hall tower, a true symbol of citizenship. In the 16th century, the 5 spikes that make up its top were added to the building. Its bell system is still in operation.
