Founded in 1862, the Five Continents Museum was Germany's first ethnology museum. Today, it focuses 135,000 photographs, and a collection of some 160,000 pieces of art, ethnology, and contemporary works from all over the world. Its library has over 100,000 volumes: In short, we have a lot to wonder about! Open to the world since its creation, it invites the discovery of African, American, Asian, Austral, Oceanian, Oriental and European civilizations, through sculptures, ceramics and other magnificent paintings… Exhibitions also deal with the work of pearls in Southern Africa, Indian artists' silkscrews, Hindu and Buddhist culture coins. and precious treasures from the Incas. The Manuscripts and Writing collection contains a wide range of documents on ethnological collections of the museum. In addition, the Museum Fünf Kontinente has a collection of photographs containing some 135,000 images, some of which have been taken during search trips and expeditions. The first images date from 1870. A beautiful way of perceiving and understanding the commonalities and differences between cultures, with always the backdrop, notions of exchange, dialog and respect for peoples. It is simply fascinating and is one of the most beautiful museums in the city. We feel like a tour of the world just the time of a visit!
