COOPERATIVE UIUIPI

The Uiuipi cooperative is one of the favorite places for tourists to stock up on souvenirs. It has been more than ten years since various sculptors and "jewellers" from Pemba and its surroundings have gathered there in a cooperative to sell the fruit of their labours. Previously, these artists and craftsmen were street vendors; after being constantly rejected by the authorities, they decided to join together in a cooperative. The culture then takes all its power.
