Manica has a long tradition of mining and farming. The climate makes it possible to grow almost anything: lychees in November and December, strawberries, mangoes and grapes, which make a very average local wine. A large ginger plantation can be found towards the mountains. Vumba, the mineral spring water from a mountain near the border, is famous throughout the country, as is the Manica beer brewed nearby. Manica is 30 km from Mutare in Zimbabwe, which explains the strong influence of the neighboring country on the city. To get from one to the other, you have to cross the border at Machipanda (19 km from Manica).
