CAFE SCHUBERT
A historic café in Sankt Pölten's pedestrian precinct, where you can appreciate the Viennese café style. You can sit on the terrace or in one of the rooms at any time of day. This is a good opportunity to remember that Franz Schubert stayed in Sankt Pölten in 1821, invited by Bishop Johann Nepomuk von Dankesreither. On this occasion, he composed part of his opera "Alfonso and Estrella" while staying at Ochsenburg Castle. The town houses a small museum dedicated to the composer's relationship with Sankt Pölten, the highlight of which is a period fortepiano.
