VOTIVE CHURCH (VOTIVKIRCHE)
With its 99-metre spires, it is the second highest church in Vienna.
Perhaps the city's most beautiful neo-Gothic church. Following a failed attempt on the life of Emperor Franz Joseph, the population was asked to raise funds to build a church. In view of its sheer size, the Austrians must have been very frightened and/or kind-hearted! From 1856 to 1879, the project occupied architect Heinrich von Ferstel, then aged just 28. The spires reach a height of 99 metres, making it the second-highest church in Vienna.
