Building dedicated by one of the first Catholic bishops of Iceland in Grimsey
Ravaged by fire a few years ago, the church of Grímsey (Miðgarðakirkja) rises again, a symbol of the island's resilience. This place occupies an essential place in local history: the original church was consecrated as early as the XIᵉ century by one of Iceland's first Catholic bishops, who imposed the daily celebration of several masses, with the presence of at least two priests. Over time, the building underwent several transformations: rebuilt in 1867, moved in 1932, renovated in 1956, it was finally recognized as a protected monument in 1990.
