A lake formed by two basins whose depth does not exceed 4.50 m, and which communicate by a narrow channel to Myvatn

The depth of Lake Mývatn is shallow, no more than 4.50 m. The lake is made up of two basins linked by a narrow channel: Syðriflói, the larger, to the south, and Ytriflói, to the north. Mývatn means "lake of the midges" and, when there's no wind, you're surrounded by swarms of these nasty, fortunately non-stinging beasts. Although many tourists don't linger here, this lake and its many sites of interest are well worth a two-day stopover to enjoy them to the full. The site is particularly beautiful in fine weather.

camping au bord du lac ou l'on trouve oiseaux et surtout moucherons ( heureusement ils ne piquent pas ) mais ce sont les randonnées autour du lac qui valent le coup d'oeil

Très beau lac où on peut voir de nombreux oiseaux... et moucherons ( d'où le nom du lac en islandais!). C'est surtout les alentours qui sont à visiter avec de nombreux site : volcans, sites geologiques, pseudo cratère ( skutustadir)....

Lac jolie sans plus, par contre tout l'intérêt se trouve tout autour du lac avec des paysages magnifique prévoir 1 jour entier voir 2 si possible.

Très joli lac, peu étendu mais très découpé. Nous avons fait le tour en voiture. Nous avons gravi le volcan juste à côté. La vue était magnifique après l'ascension assez pénible. Il y avait peu de moucherons, une bonne chose car leur présence est assez désagréable. Il y a de nombreuses choses à faire autour du lac : randonnées, balades, grottes, site géothermique, petite villes, ...

Je vous conseille de faire un détour dans l’équivalent du blue lagon local, moins cher et très sympa !
