One of the best places to see many ducks in Myvatn

At Kálfaströnd, and opposite at Höfdi, on the eastern shore of Mývatn, the remains of a lava lake can be seen, though less impressive than Dimmuborgir. In the lake stand curious reddish columns coloured by lichen. This wooded peninsula, jutting out into the lake, is also one of the best places to see many ducks. The road describes a circle and is very easy to access. To the southeast lies an old lava flow, barren and gray, called the "Old Laxá". The site is located on road 848, south of Reykjahlíð.
