A row of bare earth hills, colored with sulfur and sublimated deposits that gives the impression of a small desert in Myvatn
Námafjall, the "quarry mountain", is a row of bare earth hills. It is coloured with sulphur and sublimated deposits and gives the impression of a small desert. It was once a quarry worked for the Danish king. At the end of the parking lot, a small observation platform overlooks a large boiling mud pot. Be careful not to stray from the paths; under the earth's crust, the ground is heated from 80°C to 100°C, so be careful. Access to the site is via Route 1, 6 km east of Reykjahlíð.
