Charming hotel located in a quiet street, offers spacious and welcoming rooms

The Holt Hotel is a charming hotel with 40 rooms, including 12 suites, with an intimate atmosphere. It is located in a small quiet street, behind a facade that does not look like much. The interior, on the other hand, shows a hushed luxury, with various rooms decorated with what is one of the finest private collections of Icelandic art. There are spacious and welcoming rooms as well as everything you need to enjoy yourself: bar, restaurant, library and even a small fitness room to change your mind.

Owner's Message

GEIRLAUG ÞORVALDSDÓTTIR

Geirlaug Þorvaldsdóttir is the sole owner of Holt Hotel since 2004. She is the daughter of the founders of Holt Hotel, Þorvaldur Guðmundsson and Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir.

Geirlaug worked at the Loftleiðir Hotel (now Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Natura) and in the lobby of Holt Hotel when she was younger, while completing her studies.

She has taught foreign languages at Menntaskólinn í Hamrahlíð Upper Secondary School for over 30 years.

She graduated from the drama department of the National Theatre of Iceland in 1972 and worked there for several years. She has also worked in television and radio programming and for the Reykjavik Art Festival for several years.

Geirlaug has always been active in the community. She has been a member of the board of the Icelandic Association of University Women for many years, including 14 years as president. She has also been a board member of the Federation of Women's Societies in Reykjavik, the Home Economics School in Reykjavik and the Mothers Fund in Reykjavik.

Geirlaug's children are Þorvaldur Kristjánsson, Iceland's national horse breeding advisor, and Ingibjörg Kristjánsdóttir, who is completing a postgraduate degree in cardiology.

Location was good, only a few minutes to the 'rainbow road' and the cat cafe. The bed was very comfortable but that's all the good things for the hotel. Hotel needs a serious update. Room was very small and dark, with one chair, a desk, the smallest TV, wonky paintings, 2 single beds pushed together, mouldy walls in the shower and no mini fridge ( even though there was space for one in the wardrobe). Breakfast was included in our stay, if not its €25pp. It wasn't anything special with a small array and a baine marie of scrambled egg, baked beans, bacon but this was changed everyday. It would have been nice to be asked if we wanted a hot breakfast and they cook it fresh from order.

Had a fantastic time in Reykjavik, loved the hotel... pretty centrally located (especially for pickup & and drop-off bus stops, including BSI terminal). Friendly staff 10/10!

This hotel has the ideal location. Close enough to the centre but just a little far enough away to be quiet. Only thing I’d take away is rooms are small and very basic.

Notable mention to the bar which is ideal for a night cap.

Everyone was welcoming and helpful. Clean hotel and rooms. Helped with taxi’s and my excursions. Even gave me a packed breakfast on my way to the airport.

I didn't end up staying here due to plan changes but the staff was very helpful and courteous through my booking interactions! I will definitely plan on staying here next time!
