THÉÂTRE D’ÉTAT (ŠTÁTNE DIVADLO)

The Košice State Theatre is located in the historic centre of the city, on the main street Hlavná. This monument was built in the neo-Baroque style according to Adolf Lang's plans in 1879-1899 on the site of the former 1788 theatre. Originally, the plays were performed in Hungarian. Today it is the largest theatre in the city, with quality performances ranging from the greatest classical operas and ballets to the most avant-garde stages.
