FORTIFICATIONS (HRADBY MESTSKÉHO OPEVNENIA)

They were built between 1603 and 1664 to protect against Ottoman invasions. They follow the contours of the city through a stone wall. This system had 9 bastions used to bomb the invaders and 6 gates (two small side gates to the vineyards and four main gates). Today, only two parts have been preserved, much smaller than the impressive original 10 metres high.
