STATUE OF THE CHAMOIS (SOCHA KAMZÍKA)
Petit Futé's opinion on STATUE OF THE CHAMOIS (SOCHA KAMZÍKA)
You will see it on all postcards, but you have to climb above the city to see it in person. As a reward, you will have a magnificent view of Karlovy Vary and the hill opposite, topped by the Imperial Hotel. The original statue, made of zinc in 1856, was replaced in 1986 by a bronze copy. It is said that it was Baron Lutzov who had it done to deny the famous legend of the deer that fell into the source Vfiědlo. Moreover, the famous hunt is mentioned for the first time in a poem by Strobelberger from 1622 and the name of the place Jelení Skok (the Deer Jump) dates only from the 19th century.
