Of the three Tolstoy museums in Moscow, not counting his residence in Yasnaya Polyana outside Moscow, Khamovniki is the most interesting and original. He occupies a wooden house where the author lived from 1895 to 1901 and the place recreates the atmosphere of what was one of the most popular literary salons in Moscow. The museum's collection contains priceless recordings of the great Russian writer's voice and films depicting him, dating from 1910.
