This Benedictine priory was built on the orders of William the Conqueror in 1087, and was once reserved for visiting guests. This makes it the oldest building in Exeter! It was dissolved and destroyed during the reign of Henry VIII. In Elizabethan times, it became the property of a wealthy merchant. The Guest Hall and its furnishings date from the 15th century. It also boasts a Romanesque crypt and, in the garden, a 7th-century Celtic cross. Regular plays, concerts and events are held here.
