Henri Pittier National Park, located near the city of Maracay in Venezuela, is the country's first national park. Created in 1937, it pays tribute to Swiss biologist Henri François Pittier, who played a key role in preserving Venezuela's natural wealth and ecosystems. With a surface area of 1,078 km2, the park stretches from the Caribbean coast to the mountainous regions of the country's interior. Its flora is particularly exuberant, with tree ferns, bromeliads and rare ornamental plant species such as the Gunnera pittierana. As for wildlife, the park is home to pumas, ocelots, otters, tapirs, kinkajous, coatis, porcupines, snakes, lizards and frogs. But it is above all for its birds that the park is renowned, with no fewer than 550 different species, representing 40% of all Venezuelan birds. Henri Pittier National Park is a true paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
