Created in 1937, Henri-Pittier Park, a huge natural reserve, owes its name to the Swiss botanist who carried out most of his work on the fauna and flora of the places. This corner of paradise was linked to Maracay in the time of Gómez, which ordered the construction of this road to be able to flee by the sea in case of conspiracy… The task was entrusted to prisoners of common law, but also to political prisoners, brought to force. The mistreatment of guards, snakes and other epidemics caused a massacre. In this park, which covers 107 800 ha shared by two states - 84% Aragua and 16% Carabobo - nature lovers will find their happiness because there are 580 species, or more than 43% of the country's bird population, of which 7% of the species recorded in the world. Among them les, budgies and toucans… All the sounds and colours are there. Ornithologists, students and amateurs from all over the world are here to complete their comments. One of their favourite places is Mount Portachuelo, in the cloud forest and just a few hundred metres from the Biologique Grande biological station. It is absolutely necessary to go through mountains, bathed in waterfalls, in the shadow of giant ferns. After this lush paradise of green unleashed, the descent on the coast is natural. It is then the great Caribbean. The day, the rhythm of the waves, between coconut, pelicans and white sand; At night, drums put the fire to Choroni (especially), everyone dance on the street, alcohol flows flow and villagers come into trance… The best is still to go: it's crazy!
