MINGYONG GLACIER
This glacier, stretching for some ten kilometers, is a mythical place of pilgrimage
Rapidly shrinking due to global warming, the Mingyong glacier still stretches for some ten kilometers, descending to an altitude of 2,700 meters. Sacred to the Tibetans, it attracts many pilgrims who come to pay homage to Mount Kawagebo. A two-hour hike leads to a panoramic lookout near the Taizi Miao temple (太子庙). From here, the view of the glacier tongue is spectacular. The glacier, now inaccessible to walkers, remains a major spiritual site and a fragile symbol of Yunnan's natural beauty.
