MURAL TUTTOMONDO DI KEITH HARING
Icon of street art, the famous mural by Keith Haring.
Keith Haring (1958-1990), an emblematic figure of pop art and New York in the 1980s, created his last public mural in Pisa in 1989, before dying of AIDS a few months later at the age of 31.
It is said that the idea of creating the Tuttomondo mural in Pisa came from a meeting between the artist and a Pisan student in the streets of the Big Apple, where Keith Haring had opened his Pop Shop in Soho in 1986, with the support of Andy Warhol. His flash work, inspired by graffiti and street culture in general, has influenced many artists, such as Massimo Pasca, the "adopted Pisan", who does his painting "live" (originally from Puglia, he has lived in Pisa since 1994).
Just 500 meters from the train station(Stazione di Pisa Centrale, located in Piazza della Stazione), on one of the facades of the former rectory of the church of Sant'Antonio Abate, which is located in front of Piazza Sant'Antonio, you can admire the famous fresco Tuttomondo, one of the few works by the artist with a title. It represents peace and harmony in the world and covers an area of about 180 square meters. From a symbolic point of view, it is also the meeting of a Catholic building with the work of a gay artist. Recognizable by its bright, jubilant colors and iconic stylized characters, this work by Keith Haring is considered his artistic testament.
Dans un quartier un peu gris pres de la gare elle est quand meme assez sympathique
