PALAZZO PICCOLOMINI
15th century Renaissance palace designed by Bernardo Gambarelli, trusted architect of Pope Pius II in Siena.
This 15th-century Renaissance palace, designed by Bernardo Gambarelli, Pope Pius II's trusted architect, features a mature Florentine style. It houses the city archives and the Biccherna Tablet Museum. Particularly noteworthy among the works on display is the collection of biccherne, small paintings on wood created by great Sienese artists between the 13th and 17th centuries, originally used as covers for tax registers. Don't forget the panoramic terrace, with its beautiful view over the Piazza del Campo.
