GIARDINO BARDINI
A green 4-hectare site in the heart of Florence, between Costa San Giorgio and Borgo San Niccolò.
Everywhere, the Boboli Garden represents Florence. Everywhere, it's praised for its beauty... Yet the Bardini Garden, on the hillside between Costa San Giorgio and Borgo San Niccolò, deserves just as much attention, for many reasons. Firstly, because it's much better maintained. Although smaller (four hectares), it has nothing to envy Boboli in terms of panoramic views of Florence. There's an abundance of flowers and plants. It's a green space in the heart of the city, divided into three parts: the orchard to the east, the Baroque staircase in the center and the English garden to the west. All the Tuscan capital's main monuments can be seen here, including the library, which houses some six million books. Far less crowded than the city's other gardens, it's easier to find a little privacy here. Refreshments can be enjoyed on the terrace of a café overlooking the garden, offering a beautiful view of Florence. The Bardini garden is named after the famous antique dealer Stefano Bardini (1854-1922), who was its last owner.
A visit in spring is all the more fascinating when the wisteria, roses, azaleas and hydrangeas are in bloom. Perfect for a country stroll!
On a practical note, there are two ways to access the garden (costa San Giorgio, 2 or via dei Bardi, 1r), and the entrance ticket (valid for one day) can be combined with the Boboli Garden and the Porcelain Museum.
