Budget & Tips
Of course, prices vary according to the season.
Low season: from the second week of January to the end of February, and from early November to the Christmas vacations.
Mid-season: in March, from mid-July to the end of August (it's very hot in Florence in midsummer!). Discounts are often offered by hotels wishing to start the season earlier.
High season: end of March to July, September to end of October and Christmas.
Some establishments may require a minimum stay of three nights.
Please note: accommodations charge a tourist tax(tassa di soggiorno) of €2 to €7 per person per night. The rate depends on the category of the establishment you are staying in. The tax is not included in the price at the time of booking, so it will be calculated as a supplement on the day of departure.
To be booked
The Christmas and Easter periods are very popular: book well in advance. Also around June 24, during the final of the Calcio Storico Fiorentino: Florence is in a frenzy!
What's very local
Religious institutions offer accommodation that is generally open to all. Also very local is the absence of elevators in the Renaissance palaces that today serve as lodgings.
For food lovers
Check that breakfast(colazione) is included in the price of your stay. Some facilities have an agreement with the neighboring bar: a good way to start the day with the locals. Italian breakfast is fairly basic: cappuccino and cornetto (a croissant often filled with cream, jam or chocolate).
Smokers
As in France, smoking is banned in hotels. Since 2005, Italy has introduced a series of tough anti-smoking measures.
