Born in Florence in 1265, Dante was one of the first writers in the Italian language, and the author of The Divine Comedy, a poem published in 1302. The text is considered a literary masterpiece for its narrative and historical ambition, and its immense wealth of expression. Dante Alighieri was not only a great poet, but also a politician in troubled times. According to historians, this house was the writer's birthplace. Today, the museum focuses on Dante's life and work, and the medieval Florence in which he lived.
