The Mercato Nuovo, one of Florence's historic markets, is housed in a superb loggia. The arcades date back to the 16th century. The most observant will notice that not all the niches on the corner pillars are occupied by statues. The architects had planned to place representations of famous Florentines in these niches. But only three statues were finally completed in the 18th century. The market is still active today, with many stalls specializing in leather goods.

Joli petit marché qui sent bon le cuir. Beaucoup de beaux bâtiments dans les petites ruelles l'entourant. Un des rares endroits du centre où j'ai trouvé des sandwiches à prix raisonnable (Florence est une ville extrêmement touristique et donc relativement chère pour les petits budgets). Ne pas rater la sculpture de sanglier. La caresser porterait bonheur.
