FORTE DI BELVEDERE
Fortified villa overlooking Florence, designed by the architect Buontalenti between 1590 and 1595
This fort, set on a hill overlooking Florence, has to be earned! The climb is, it has to be said, quite physical. This fortified villa, a sign of Medici domination, was designed by the architect Buontalenti between 1590 and 1595. The fort was linked to the Palazzo Pitti and Palazzo Vecchio by several secret passages through the Boboli gardens and Vasari's Corridor! Frankly, apart from the beautiful views over the Florentine city and the pleasant terrace of a bar at the top of the fortress, the temporary exhibitions often leave something to be desired.
