FONDAZIONE QUERINI STAMPALIA
Foundation hosting a beautiful collection of paintings and various works of art in Venice.
The museum of the Querini-Stampalia Foundation has more than 300 paintings from the Venetian School. Here you will find works by Giovanni Bellini, Tiepolo, Pietro and Alessandro Longhi. The palace of the Foundation belonged to a great patrician family, the Querini. The Venetian tradition that family names are followed by those of the possessions, the name of Stampalia (Greek island) was added afterwards. This palace was built between 1510 and 1514 and thus belonged to the Querini-Stampalia family until 1868, when the last descendant, Count Giovanni, left his heritage, palace and private library to the City of Venice.
Today, as a foundation, the palace is composed of a library of 200 000 volumes and a gallery that possesses, apart from 300 paintings from Venetian and Italian schools, international paintings, sculptures from Canova, porcelain of Sèvres and other marvels.
