CHAMOUSIRA GOLD MINES

The largest gold mine in the Aosta Valley is hidden by the dense fir forest above Brusson. In operation since the early ^20th century, it comprises 7 levels of tunnels up to 1,600 metres long. The guided tour inside the tunnels is equipped with a protective helmet and foulies provided at the start of the tour. Beware, however, of the damp environment, the steps, the darkness (take a headlamp) and the short 20-minute trot to the tunnel entrance (leave early to avoid delays).
