Door of a building north of the Duomo and the Royal Palace with 2 polygonal towers
Piedmont is a border region and the architecture of its cities has been marked by different influences over the centuries. Turin has preserved, in particular, the Palatine Gate (Porta Palazzo) from the ancient Augusta Taurinorum, built in the 1st century AD. It is located north of the Duomo and the Royal Palace and was one of the four gates to the city. In its present form, the building consists of two polygonal towers, each with sixteen faces, and a central gate. Only the latter and the right tower are Roman. The left tower dates from the medieval period.
