THE OLD TRAIN STATION
Riyak's curiosity is undoubtedly its abandoned railway station. The site is imposing and perfectly visible from the road, and in particular from the parking lot of the Raymond restaurant.
Riyak has been an important node of the Lebanese rail network. From Riyak, one could then go to Beirut and Damascus by a narrow gauge (1.05 m) and to Homs by a normal gauge. There was then a very large steam locomotive maintenance shop (located 1 km from the station). The first train appeared in Riyak in 1895. Then rail traffic was abandoned with the civil war in 1976. Since then, the site has been abandoned. Fans of locomotives want to rehabilitate the site and transform it into a museum. A great initiative that has been waiting to become a reality for many years now.
