One of the most beautiful squares in Reggio Emilia, surrounded by trees and pastel-colored facades

Piazza Fontanesi is one of the most beautiful squares in Reggio Emilia. Surrounded by trees and pastel-coloured facades, it hosts markets and terraces of restaurants and cafés. It is bordered to the north and east by 15th century porticoed houses. Note, on the east side, the pebble frieze pavement: it follows the course of an old canal, the Guazzatoio, which used to cross the square and is now covered. Open-air concerts are organised on the square in the summer, so it's good to settle in for a drink at sunset time!

The sunset is fantastic with so many spritz on the square
We went for the re ghiaccio ice cream place and we enjoyed the scene seated on the stairs. The spritz glasses were beautiful in the low light of sunset
