An imposing complex that was commissioned by Emanuele Brignole in 1652

This imposing complex was commissioned by Emanuele Brignole in 1652, to house the city's destitute. One of the first Italian structures of this kind, the building resembles a palace rather than a hospice. The building was remodeled several times until 1835. Today, the Albergo dei Poveri is partly a retirement home, while two wings are reserved for the Faculty of Political Science. Some rooms and the church are open to the public, where you can admire Baroque works and fine antique furniture.
