The city's first theater, the Carlo Felice Theatre is Genoa's Opera House. Built in 1828 by the architect Carlo Barabino, it was destroyed during the Second World War and not completely renovated until 1991. Four mobile platforms house one of Europe's most advanced stage systems. It can accommodate an audience of 2,000, has its own orchestra and has been the venue for performances by the world's greatest conductors. Every year, it offers around a hundred top-quality shows.
