In the heart of the Sant'Agostino district, this theater, founded in 1701, was the city's first public establishment. Niccolò Paganini made his debut here in 1795, and in 1916 the famous Genoese comic Gilberto Govi founded his company. Today, three 700-seat halls offer a program that ranges from the great classics to contemporary authors. Most often, far from classical theatrical conventions, young Italian or foreign troupes perform here in highly contemporary interpretations.
