Under the arcades facing the palaces in the Porto Antico district, Chen Chao is the owner of this small enoteca, frequented by passing tourists and old pinball-playing regulars. Here, people come, go and leave... A cosmopolitan clientele. If the terrace isn't always clean, the idea is to eat your panini on the go, garnished with quality ingredients (cured ham, pancetta, pecorino, cheeses and more). A good idea if you come on Sundays, as this is one of the few places in the arcades to be open.

Concealed in an alleyway leading downhill, a bar run by a friendly Genoese couple. Regular customers. Tourists can nevertheless make their way in. Inside, a few small tables are ideal for a quick lunch. On the menu, daily specials and, above all, savoury snacks(panini, toast, focaccia farcita, slices of pizza...). Then the traditional coffee with a few sweet treats for dessert. A practical, efficient address that helps out when you're feeling peckish. A discreet but typical neighborhood address.

Open - Close to 20h00

Focacce with oil, sage, cheese, onions, vegetable pies, farinata and pizzas... This tiny bakery in Boccadasse is probably the best in Genoa. No strict opening hours, but just walk past it along the alleyway that runs down Corso Italia towards the sea; in season, the oven is almost always in action and the whole alley smells of warm bread. The store itself is well worth a visit, with its tiled counter, wooden benches and old photos on the wall, it's like something out of the 1980s.

Open - Close to 21h30

At the foot of the Porta Soprana towers, this is a historic address! Today, although Ania has taken up the torch from previous generations, the recipefor farinata remains the same. It's a Genoese specialty: a thin wafer fried in oil and made from chickpea flour, the equivalent of the socca of southern France's Nice region. As you can see, this is undoubtedly the best place to try it, or to eat it on the go! Specialties also include savory quiches, focaccia and fried foods.

ANTICO FORNO PATRONE

4.6/5

Open - Close to 19h30

A gourmet bakery, renowned for serving the best focaccia in Genoa. The area is quiet, not very touristy, close to the Museo Sant'Agostino, and it is mostly local people who use this place for their "daily bread". The shop windows are mouth-watering: the focaccia boards come out of the oven hot, leaving their fragrance to float down the street. The house specialty is focaccia alla genovese covered with pesto, potatoes and green beans. Some stools for tasting on the spot.

The city's umpteenth friggitoria is a takeaway cone of fried fish, but it's still a safe bet among all the lestakeaway places in the Aquarium district. The typical Genoese snack is available here in several variations. Depending on your tastes (and your budget), choose the type of fish that most appeals to you. From shrimp to anchovies, sardines, octopus or cod, you're spoilt for choice. There's even a vegetarian cornet and verrines of fish mousse to enjoy on the quayside. Fair prices and pleasant service.

LA FORNERIA

Open - Close to 19h30

In the yellow and brown tones, the Forneria extends to our great pleasure. With this good smell that comes out of the baker… you're like drawn inside! In the background of the store is a curious bread oven covered with copper plates. Here the Genoese come to buy their daily bread (to the various meals from natural manufacturing processes), gressins, parts of pizza and other focaccie of all kinds! Sweet and sweet treats (biscuits, pandolce) invade the two respective windows (bakery on one side, caterer on the other). As a bonus? A really light addition! A few steps from the eastern market (which also houses the second shop: La Forneria 2), a warm and authentic address overlooking Colombo Square.
